The nerves will be jangling at The Amex on Tuesday when Brighton play host to Cardiff in a Premier League relegation six-pointer.

The Seagulls will head into the match sitting five points clear of the Bluebirds, who currently occupy the final relegation position, but Chris Hughton’s side have lost their last three top flight games without scoring, with Saturday’s 5-0 home thrashing at the hands of Bournemouth potentially leaving them at a low ebb.

However, Hughton is convinced he will have no problems lifting his players for Tuesday’s clash and Brighton also have the added safety net of a game in hand on Cardiff.

That means a draw could be considered a positive result for the Seagulls, although it would be a risk to play for a share of the spoils, particularly as The Amex crowd will be demanding a response following Saturday’s heavy defeat.

Brighton will be boosted by the return of Pascal Gross for the first time since the end of February following a hamstring injury, while Solly March, who has missed the last two games with a calf problem, is also expected to come back into contention.

One man who definitely won’t feature is winger Anthony Knockaert following his red card against Bournemouth.

Cardiff will head into the match knowing they realistically need to win to keep their fading hopes of survival alive.

The Bluebirds have lost six of their last seven league games, although they felt hard done by following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Burnley, when they believed a number of big decisions did not go their way.

Boss Neil Warnock has no new injuries to contend with, although Sol Bamba and Callum Paterson remain long-term absentees.

The Welsh club will also take heart from the fact they beat Brighton 2-1 when the two sides met at the Cardiff City Stadium earlier in the season.
