Relegated Fulham’s three-match winning run came to an end at Molineux as Wolves beat Scott Parker’s team 1-0.

Leander Dendoncker scored the only goal with 15 minutes left to improve Wolves’ chances of finishing seventh just 12 months after being promoted from the Championship.

The Cottagers made the better start to the game though and Rui Patricio had to save Joe Bryan’s long-range strike.

When Wolves responded Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez combined to play in Diogo Jota who saw his shot turned away by Sergio Rico.

Jota then lashed a low shot just wide before, after a lengthy spell of mediocrity, Dendoncker headed Moutinho’s teasing cross against the bar.

As Wolves began to get on top, Willy Boly headed wide from Moutinho’s free-kick although Fulham went close to breaking the deadlock just before the interval when Bryan forced Patricio to tip his shot over the bar.

The first 45 minutes had been dull and the start of the second period was little better as both teams appeared to be going through the motions in the penultimate fixture of the campaign.

The first chance of the second period fell to Jota who could not direct his left-footed shot on target while at the other end a good Cottagers move ended with the unmarked Aleksandar Mitrovic lashing his shot over the bar.

As the match finally began to open up, Wolves wasted three chances in quick succession, Rico saving Ruben Neves’ 25-yard effort and Matt Doherty’s header before Jimenez headed a presentable opening wide.

However, Dendoncker grabbed the crucial goal when he volleyed Doherty’s cross past Rico and Wolves went very close to scoring a second goal in the closing stages only for Jota’s thundering shot to be tipped onto the crossbar by the Fulham goalkeeper.
