Chelsea 1-2 Manchester United

Match Report
Marcus Rashford is more motivated to get Manchester United back to the top after seeing the success of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Marcus Rashford scored both of Manchester United’s goals as they clinched a fine 2-1 win against Chelsea to reach the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have now won three matches in a row in all competitions since drawing 1-1 with Liverpool earlier this month.

United, who made four changes to the team that won 3-1 against struggling Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday, started the fourth-round tie at Stamford Bridge well and Scott McTominay swept an early shot into the side-netting.

The visitors deservedly took the lead in the 25th minute thanks to Rashford’s spot-kick after Daniel James had gone down under Marcos Alonso’s challenge and United remained 1-0 ahead at the break.

Christian Pulisic, who scored a hat-trick in Chelsea’s excellent 4-2 win at Burnley on Saturday, dragged a shot wide for Frank Lampard’s team who equalised soon after the hour mark when Michy Batshuayi latched on a to long goal-kick and crashed a 20-yard shot home.

However, United restored their lead in the 73rd minute and once again it was Rashford who scored, this time with a stupendous a 30-yard free-kick.

Kurt Zouma flicked a late header wide for the home team but Chelsea could not force a second equaliser and it will be United who are involved in the quarter-final draw on Thursday morning.
