Sheffield United 3-0 Burnley

Sheffield United have moved up to fifth in the Premier League after a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Burnley at Bramall Lane.

The Blades had struggled on home soil prior to beating Arsenal 1-0 in their last match at Bramall Lane but they appear to have finally found their feet.

They now boast back-to-back victories at home and were full value for all three points after easing past a lacklustre Burnley.

Burnley failed to take heed of some early warnings when United broke forward down the flanks and were made to pay on 17 minutes.

David McGoldrick started the move off down the left before his low cross was flicked back by Lys Mousset and John Lundstram, making a late charge from midfield, applied the finishing touch.

The Clarets failed to respond and were kept on the back foot by some impressive passing and movement, although the final ball was missing.

Sheffield United hadn’t managed to register more than one goal in each of their five previous home games this term, but they went on to buck that trend with just two minutes left of the first half.

A lovely interchange between Enda Stevens and McGoldrick saw the latter free down the left and, in similar fashion to the opener, his low ball was helped on by Mousset before Lundstram drilled home at the back stick for his second.

Just one minute later and all three points were wrapped up when Mousset pounced on a loose pass and laid through John Fleck who confidently drilled home.

Burnley failed to create in the first half and only had a couple of opportunities in the second period with an Ashley Barnes’ volley, which flew over the bar, going down as the best.

McGoldrick and Lundstram had late chances for the home side as the game became stretched but a 3-0 victory will suffice for Wilder as they move into the European places.
