Blackpool are winless in eight now but just remain in seventeenth place above Wigan Athletic by means of goal difference. Stoke City remain in tenth and are now unbeaten in four games in all competitions.
Kenwyne Jones had the best chance of the game on the stroke of half time as he scampered through on goal, rounded keeper Matthew Gilks only to skew the shot wide with the goal at his mercy.
Seconds after the restart Matthew Phillips had Blackpool's best effort of the match. Charlie Adam's corner was turned goalwards by Phillips but he was denied by a point blank Asmir Begovic save.
Glenn Whelan struck a sensational drive from long range on fifty-five minutes. The shot seemed destined for the top corner but a sprawling Gilks turned it around the post.
Gary Taylor-Fletcher skipped into the penalty area nine minutes later but with no options in the middle could only toe poke a tame shot straight at Begovic.
Whelan went close from range once again six minutes from time but his low drive flew just wide of the upright as the game drew to its almost inevitable goalless conclusion.
