West Ham United 0-0 Newcastle United

Newcastle still remain in a fight for survival as they were indebted to goalkeeper Rob Elliott for earning them a point at Upton Park.

In a rather poor first half, Papiss Cisse thought he had given the away side the lead when he had beat Jussi Jaaskelainen with a shot, but Winston Reid just managed to get back and clear off the line in what was a close call.

The second half started off brightly with Andy Carroll threatening with a couple of headed efforts against his former club, while down the other end Yohan Cabaye wasn't far off with a curled effort.

West Ham got more into the game as the half went on and Newcastle were lucky to escape when Elliot, standing in for tghe injured Tim Krul, made a superb double save to deny Kevin Nolan, also playing against his former club, before he then leapt to tip over a shot from Matt Jarvis.

The Magpies somehow managed to hold on, though with Wigan winning at West Brom today, Alan Pardew's men are only three points clear of the final relegation place.
