The France international was just starting to make an impact in the Premier League for the Magpies when he suffered a horrific leg break thanks to a rash challenge by Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong last October.
The Toon hoped Ben Afra could be back for the start of the season but the former Lyon and Marseille star picked up an ankle injury in pre-season and has been on the sidelines since.
However, Ben Afra's agent, Simon Stainrod, has now suggested Newcastle fans could get a glimpse of the 24-year-old when the Toon face Aston Villa later on this month.
"He is training again now and it is looking good for him to be fit to play within the next 10 to 14 days so I would imagine that he would be back in Premier League action this month," Stainrod told Goal.com.
"Hatem is raring to go again because he has worked really hard on his fitness since he broke his leg and was really frustrated that he had to miss the start of the season after getting an ankle injury on the tour of America."
