Magpies ponder Torres bid

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly hoping to secure a reunion with Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres in January.

Torres has failed to hit the net in 10 appearances, mostly from the bench, this season but his lack of form doesn’t appear to have put off Benitez.

The Magpies boss has twice worked with Torres at Liverpool and Chelsea and reports claim Benitez is ready to bring him in for a third time.

Newcastle have made a positive start to life back in the Premier League and currently sit 11th in the standings but Benitez has made it very clear that he wants reinforcements at St James' Park.

The 33-year-old is vastly experienced but he will need to compete with Joselu, Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez for a regular starting spot if he decides to return to England in the new year.
