Despite being linked with a summer exit, the Serbia international has been heavily involved in Newcastle's pre-season and he has managed to score three goals in the process.
The 22-year-old has looked sharp in the friendlies and there are suggestions he could be given the nod to face Tottenham Hotspur in the season-opener at St James' Park this Sunday.
Mitrovic, who was sent off the last time the Magpies faced Spurs, has been happy with his efforts over the summer and he is hoping to play a big part for Rafael Benitez in this campaign.
"I try to do my best every game and to prepare my body for a long, long season in the Premier League," he said. "It's tough, but pre-season has to be hard and tough. This one is hard and tough. I try to do the best every training (session) and every game and to prepare myself.
"Of course, they want to see the goals. I hope this season to score more than in the other season and make them happy."
