The forward moved to St James' Park in a £4.8million deal from Stoke last month and is in line to face his former side on Saturday.
Joselu struggled to make an impact with the Potters and was loaned out to Deportivo la Coruna last season but he has impressed in his brief time at Newcastle with one goal in two Premier League starts.
The 27-year-old has now paid tribute to Benitez, and stressed he does not care that he was signed in a cut-price deal over the summer.
“Rafa told me to sign here, he told me many good things about the club, the city, everything,” said Joselu, as reported by the Chronicle Live.
“I didn’t have to think too much about it, I signed quickly and I am here.
“They bought me, I now try to play well and to help the club win the games. It doesn’t matter if I cost £5m, £6m or 25m - the transfer market is crazy now. I don’t care about that.”
He added: “Rafa is a big manager in the world. When he talks about you, he says he has followed you, it’s nice to know. I am very happy to be working with him."
