Toffees ready to rescue Owen

Everton boss David Moyes has reportedly targeted Newcastle striker Michael Owen as he looks to bolster his squad this summer.

Owen is out of contract at the relegated Magpies and will move this summer, but will have to take a massive wage cut if he opts for a return to Merseyside.

Owen is thought to have been on a whacking £105,000 a week at Newcastle, but Everton would only be able to afford around half of that sort of money. However they could run to a big signing on fee with no transfer fee to pay.

Everton tried to sign Owen when Newcastle took him from Real Madrid four years ago, but could not compete with Newcastle's £17million offer and they will not have it all their own way this time as they face competition from Manchester City.
