Pochettino points to Tottenham positives
Mauricio Pochettino says he’s desperate to win a trophy with Spurs but claims fans have plenty of reasons to smile without silverware.
The Tottenham faithful were left disappointed by the club’s failure to sign a single player during the summer, the Supporters’ Trust calling for an explanation as to why they became the first team since the transfer window was introduced 15 years ago not to bring in anyone.
Pochettino has been quick to defend the club’s summer business, claiming they achieved their aims by keeping their star names, while he insists the current squad is capable of challenging for honours.
Tottenham have not won a major trophy since the League Cup a decade ago and Pochettino says he’s determined to end their drought.
However, the Argentine says that even without a new signing or trophy, the fans still have plenty to be happy about.
‘It is always in our dream to win, and you need to dream of bigger things,’ says Pochettino. ‘Of course, winning trophies is in our mind and then the reality puts you in a place you deserve.
‘But for me, Tottenham has a fantastic future as in a few months, we will have a new stadium and a new training ground, plus an amazing coaching staff.
‘I want to see in the players the commitment like it was in the last four years. There is no reason to be sad as we will arrive.’
