Valverde worried as Malcom suffers fresh ankle injury blow
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valderde has admitted that the ankle injury which Malcom suffered on Wednesday ‘is a worry’.
The 21-year-old Brazilian forward, who joined Barca from French side Bordeaux in the summer for just over 40million euros, was forced off in the latter stages of Wednesday’s 4-1 Copa del Rey victory over Cultural Leonesa.
Malcom had earlier scored his third goal of the season for Barca, but there is now a possibility that he could be sidelined for a spell.
When asked about the injury, Valverde said: ‘Malcom has a strain, but we don’t know how bad it is.
‘On Thursday he will get it assessed and we will wait until the diagnosis before talking further, but it is the same ankle that he hurt in the summer so it is a worry.
‘It was a good game for us, an opportunity to play those who have had fewer minutes and players who are in the B side.’
