Tite – I will recall Fernandinho
Brazil manager Tite has confirmed he will recall Fernandinho in his next squad after refusing to bow down to ‘racist thugs’.
The Manchester City ace has not played for his country since the World Cup in Russia this summer.
He was blamed for the team’s exit by some fans after scoring an own goal during the quarter-final defeat to Belgium.
Fernandinho was also part of the team that lost 7-1 to Germany back in the 2014 World Cup and reportedly asked Tite to not select him due to abuse on social media.
His wife and children were targeted by fans but Tite insists enough is enough and he wants him back.
Tite said: ‘I wanted the first post-World Cup squad called to have him in it. This would have been to show that no one would cut heads.
‘But I didn’t do it to preserve his public image. There is a rotten, racist, derogatory side of which I am ashamed: it’s the social media, where behind the anonymity they attack his wife, mother, for being black.
‘But I will not bow. In a pre-match press conference for the team, I said that I had called one part of the World Cup group at each call-up.
‘The next one would involve the ones that were missing – and that Fernandinho will be called up.’
