Swansea keen to tie Leroy Fer to new contract

Swansea are in talks to extend skipper Leroy Fer's stay at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea are in talks to extend skipper Leroy Fer’s stay at the Liberty Stadium.

Fer joined Swansea from QPR in 2016 and has made 96 appearances for the Sky Bet Championship club, scoring 10 goals.

The 11-times capped Holland international is out of contract at the end of the season.

Asked if Swansea had held talks over Fer’s future, manager Graham Potter said: ‘Yes we have.

‘They’ll remain private, but the club have been speaking with him.

‘The quality that he has, we haven’t got too many with his type of qualities.

‘His technical level is really good and he offers a goal threat. It’s always about a mix of age and experience.’

Fer ruptured his Achilles tendon last February and played no further part in the campaign as Swansea were relegated from the Premier League.

The 29-year-old former Feyenoord and Norwich midfielderreturned to action in August.

But Potter has managed his game-time, with nine of Fer’s 21 Championship appearances coming from the bench.
