Rafael Benitez says the whole Newcastle squad are desperate to turn around the club’s poor run of form.

After appearing to pull away from the relegation fight with three straight victories in November, the Magpies have picked up just one win from their last nine matches in all competitions.

Newcastle have slipped to 15th in the Premier League, just two points above the bottom three, and they face a tricky task on Saturday evening when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, a venue the north-east outfit have not won at since 2012.

It is a crucial stage of the season for Benitez, whose contract runs out at the end of the campaign, but he insists everyone involved with the club are working hard to turn around recent results.

‘They are disappointed when you lose and don’t take chances, but after that, we have to clear our heads and start thinking about the next game,’ he said at a press conference.

‘Last January, we were in a difficult position, but we started winning and we finished tenth.’
