Ipswich sign former Wales defender James Collins
Former Wales defender James Collins has signed for Ipswich until the end of the season.
The 35-year-old was a free agent after cancelling a short-term deal he signed with Aston Villa in December having become injured almost as soon as he began.
Collins had been training with Ipswich and will be available for Saturday’s game against Rotherham.
Ipswich manager Paul Lambert said on the club’s website: ‘James has a great presence about him and that can be huge for us.
‘He has played at the highest level and his experience will be vital. We’re delighted to have him here.’
Collins began his career close to home with Cardiff before joining West Ham in 2005. He moved to Villa in 2009 before returning to the Hammers in 2012, but was released by the London club in the summer.
Collins has been capped 51 times by Wales.
