Maurizio Sarri admits he is ‘worried’ for his Chelsea team after Sunday’s 6-0 mauling at the hands of champions Manchester City.

The Italian refused to be drawn on whether the result could cost him his job at Stamford Bridge amid rumours club chiefs have called a meeting with the coach next week.

A Sergio Aguero hat-trick, a Raheem Sterling double and a crisp strike from Ilkay Gundogan saw City thump Sarri’s Chelsea at the Etihad.

The defeat, which drops Chelsea to sixth in the Premier League – below Arsenal on goal difference – has led to speculation over Sarri’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge. But Sarri says he ‘does not know’ whether he will discuss the situation with Chelsea’s board this week.

Asked whether he feared for his job, Sarri said: ‘I don’t know. You have to ask the club. I am worried about my team, the performance but my job is always at risk. You have to ask the club.’
