Reds ace Wijnaldum sets sights on the double
Georginio Wijnaldum says Liverpool have what it takes to fight on two fronts as they target European and Premier League glory.
The Dutch midfielder got off his sick bed to help Liverpool pick up a crucial 3-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend, which got their title push back on track. The Reds now head to Marbella for a warm-weather training break as they are not involved in this weekend’s FA Cup, meaning they return to action in the Champions League at home to Bayern Munich on February 19. Despite some huge games coming thick and fast on their return, Wijnaldum is optimistic they can realistically fight on two fronts. ‘We have to see how it is going to work. I think we can play both,’ he said. ‘You never know but a lot of times it goes well. Last season the Champions League went well and we dropped a lot of points in the league. ‘But I don’t think it was because of the Champions League.’ If it is any consolation, Manchester City, who hammered Chelsea 6-0 to go back to the top of the table, will be fighting on four fronts as they have the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup still to fight for.
