Jardim hails big Monaco win

Leornardo Jardim admitted the points Monaco picked up in the 2-0 win against Lyon were crucial as they battle to stay up.

Monaco edged further away from relegation danger as Gelson Martins and Rony Lopes grabbed first-half goals, and Jardim was delighted with the performance.

It is now three wins and a draw from the last four league games since Jardim returned, and the coach says they are finally heading in the right direction.

‘Tonight we had to win,’ he said.

‘We are in a situation that requires us to earn points.

This is a very important win, our team had a good match, there are a lot of positives in the mindset and in the game.

“Today the team played at a very good level.

I want to give importance to my group.

We played with high pressure.

It worked very well and in the second half we controlled the game.

Lyon could have scored but we also had opportunities.

“The sporting performances vary sometimes but the quality of my players remains.

Today we are better but nothing is done.

We are already thinking about the next game.

We have to continue.

“We have played 4 games out of 16 in this mini championship, and our goal is to be at the top of France’s best teams, which is the case at the moment.”
