Roy Hodgson says he’s unsure when Mamadou Sakho will return to action but claims the defender is eager to play again this season.

The Frenchman hasn’t been seen for the Eagles since he went down with a knee injury during the closing stages of the 4-1 win over Leicester City at the end of February.

The former Liverpool man has since undergone an operation to correct the issue and Hodgson remains coy on whether it will bring an early end to his season.

However, Sakho is reportedly eager to feature in Palace’s remaining matches and Hodgson believes he will be pushing himself to return ahead of schedule, particularly if the Londoners can continue their FA Cup run.

‘He’s recovering from the operation.

It’s a weekly thing but we hope of course that he’ll recover,’ said Hodgson.

‘He’s working very hard to recover but he only had the operation just over a week ago.

It’s going to take a while before we see him back even in rehabilitation and then we’ll see how many weeks are left in the season.

‘But he is adamant that he doesn’t want to write off the season.

He will do his level best but whether the injury will prevent that, we’ll have to wait and see.’
