Brighton boss Chris Hughton has demanded more resilience from his men as they look to avoid relegation.

The south-coast outfit have been dragged into a relegation battle over recent weeks due to their frailties at the back.

They have lost four successive Premier League games, conceding 11 times in the process, and now sit just two points clear of Cardiff in 18th although they have a game in hand.

Hughton accepts his side have never been the biggest scorers and insists they must tighten up to ensure they can compete.

‘We haven’t been a big goalscoring team.

For what we have, we’re not going to be that,’ Hughton said.

‘What we have been able to do is stay in games, make games close and tight affairs.

‘In those games (defeats at home to Bournemouth and Cardiff), we’ve conceded far too many goals, and that’s not down to individuals.

It’s down to the team.

‘If we’re not going to score the goals, we need to be more resilient.

Over the last few days we haven’t been like that.’
