Leipzig looking into permanent swoop for Smith-Rowe
RB Leipzig are reportedly lining up a move to sign loan man Emile Smith-Rowe on a permanent basis from Arsenal this summer.
The Gunners sent the 18-year-old to the Bundesliga to give him a chance to gain some regular first-team experience given he has only made six appearances in cup competitions at the Emirates Stadium.
A groin injury has hampered Smith-Rowe’s time in Germany although he is set to feature in the remaining games of the season, having stepped off the bench late on in last week’s 2-0 home win against Wolfsburg.
And reports suggest Leipzig are keen to keep the teenager on a long-term basis, with the player recently revealing he is enjoying his time in the Bundesliga.
He said: ‘There are a lot of good players here and big teams as well.
It’s like the Premier League, really.
Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Schalke – all big teams, all Champions League teams, really.
I think it’s a great opportunity.
‘I think it’s definitely a big step at such a young age, but I think that’s a great experience, seeing Reiss [Nelson] and other young players take the step, obviously doing well and enjoying themselves, that has really boosted my confidence.’
