Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce says the club is planning to sit down and discuss a new deal for goalkeeper Kieran Westwood this week.

Bruce says he plans to speak to Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri about the plans for the summer and one of the first priorities appears to be keeping hold of Westwood, who has been integral to the team’s late push for a play-off spot.

Having been left out of the side under former boss Jos Luhukay, the 34-year-old has been handed a second chance under Bruce and has responded by keeping 11 clean sheets in 20 appearances.

The Republic of Ireland international’s contract will expire at the end of the season and Huddersfield Town have been linked with a move in recent weeks.

However, Bruce is hopeful he will extending his five-year stint at Hillsborough ahead of contract talks.

‘I haven’t heard anything like that at all,’ said Bruce.

‘I haven’t sat down with Keiren yet but we will do this week and see what happens.’
