Noel Whelan says Harvey Barnes is showing just how good he is since returning to Leicester City in January.

Barnes joined Championship outfit West Brom on a season-long loan last summer but, after scoring nine goals from 26 league appearances, he was recalled from his loan spell early by then Leicester manager Claude Puel.

Despite the French tactician being replaced by Brendan Rodgers, the 21-year-old has continued to feature regularly and he scored his first Premier League coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw against West Ham United last time out.

Foxes defender Harry Maguire has already backed team-mate Barnes to score more from now until the end of the campaign and Whelan, who won the FA Youth Cup with Leeds in the 1992/93 season, also lavished praise on the Burnley-born star.

‘He was brilliant at West Brom when he was there,’ he told Football Insider.

‘It was a shame they had to lose him as he made the difference when he was in the side.

I loved watching him play and thought, ‘wow, what a player’.

‘He has pace, power, technique, can run with the ball and has desire and hunger.

He is what you want from a winger.

He is box-to-box and can do the defensive side as well.

‘You can tell how good he is by the fact he has gone back to Leicester and is now doing it, and looking fantastic, in the Premier League.’
