Jardim hails Monaco spirit following Rennes point
Leonardo Jardim praised his Monaco players as they battled back to earn a crucial point in a 2-2 draw against Rennes.
Monaco were trailing 2-0 at the Stade de la Route-de-Lorient as Adrien Hunou’s fired home a brace after just nine minutes, but Monaco hit back after the break to ease themselves four points clear of the drop zone.
Radamel Falcao was the hero when grabbing both goals in the last 20 minutes and Jardim was more than happy with the fighting spirit shown by his side.
‘We were able to come back,’ Jardim said.
‘This is an important point in the battle to stay up.
We worked to win, but we got in trouble after ten minutes.
The attitude was not good.
‘We were able to re-balance the game, with more possession and be calm, and above all, we were more efficient in the second half.
‘We can explain our difficulties by the stress of staying up.
Few of our players have ever played it, it’s not an easy fight, we just panicked in the beginning.
‘I have to stay calm and confident and pass it on to the players.
I always said that it would be played until the end, with these kind of matches.’
