Promotion the aim next season – Bruce

Steve Bruce says getting back into the Premier League is Sheffield Wednesday’s goal next season.

The Owls have missed out on a play-off place this season but there is huge optimism for a promotion push in the next campaign due to the improved form since Bruce took charge at Hillsborough.

Since officially taking over on February 1, the Englishman has suffered just two defeats from 17 Championship matches and the upturn in results almost gave the club a chance of sneaking into the top six.

Attention is already being turned towards next season and Bruce is adamant his squad has enough quality to get back into the Premier League for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign.

‘We look to next season,’ he said at his pre-match press conference.

‘I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t believe that we will be challenging.

‘It’s what everyone demands and it’s what we will be working hard for.

‘ Wednesday bring this season to a close on Sunday when they play host to Queens Park Rangers.
