Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt admits he does not know where his future lies after helping his team win the double.
After a 4-0 win against Willem II sealed the KNVB Cup earlier this month, Ajax went into Wednesday evening’s game against De Graafschap knowing a win would seal the league title for them for the first time in five years.
Two goals from Dusan Tadic, and one each from Lasse Schone and Nicolas Tagliafico set them on their way to glory, while they also defied expectations to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
De Ligt is widely regarded as the finest young central defender in the world and has been linked with a plethora of big clubs, with Barcelona thought to be the favourites for his signature, potentially where he could join team-mate Frenkie de Jong next season.
Speaking after the title-winning game though, the 19-year-old insists he does not have any further information on where he will be playing next term.
‘This is not the time to talk about my future,’ he told Fox Sports.
‘I don’t know if I will go with Frenkie de Jong [to Barcelona].
I still have to analyse things and see everything.
We’ll see what happens.
‘I cannot say anything.
We’ll see at the end of summer.
There is nothing yet.’
