Arsenal are reported to be weighing up a move for Gremio defender Walter Kannemann as Unai Emery attempts to strengthen his squad on a budget.

Finances are expected to be tight at the Emirates Stadium over the summer and Emery will have to shop wisely as he looks to bring in a number of new players.

Defence was a concern for much of this season and at least one new central defender is said to be on his wanted list, with Kannemann a reported target.

The Italian media are reporting that Arsenal have tabled a 12million euros bid with additional bonuses, in the hope it will be enough to secure a deal.

The 28-year-old’s form has caught the eye of the Gunners and also lead to a call up to the Argentina national side, where he has made five appearances since last September.

Italian outfits Inter Milan and Sampdoria are also said to be keen, hence Arsenal’s decision to get a bid in early to try and win the race.
