Gundogan seeks contract dialogue
Ilkay Gundogan has stated his desire to re-open talks with Manchester City chiefs in the coming days over a new deal.
The Germany international midfielder is in the final year of his deal at the Etihad and has been slow to respond to City’s offer of a new four-year agreement, believed to be worth £130,000-per-week.
Gundogan, however, has given the clearest indication yet he is ready to stay and commit his peak years to Pep Guardiola’s treble winners.
The 28-year-old told Bild: ‘Now is enough time to reflect on the situation and to take up the talks again more intensely with the club.
‘ There is renewed optimism the German feels much more comfortable about his standing in City’s star-studded squad, having started 13 of the final 14 Premier League games of the season.
Gundogan proved a key component during the recent title run-in and Guardiola has also gone out of his way to reassure the schemer that he has a big role to play, despite also planning to bring in Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder Rodrigo this summer.
