United worried by City’s interest in Maguire
Manchester United insiders are reportedly fearful £75m-rated Harry Maguire may have his head turned by rivals Manchester City.
The Leicester City and England central defender had set his heart on a move to Old Trafford following last summer’s World Cup, with the Red Devils drawing a frustrating blank in protracted negotiations with the Foxes.
Maguire signed an improved deal to stay at the King Power but United’s admiration for the burly 26-year-old remains firm, with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also understood to be a fan.
The former Hull City blocker, however, is reportedly being courted by the blue side of Manchester as a possible replacement for departed skipper Vincent Kompany.
Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has stated he does not want to lose Maguire, who has emerged as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since his £17m move two seasons ago.
Maguire produced an impressive display at the Etihad in the 1-0 defeat to the Citizens earlier this month, which saw Pep Guardiola go out of his way to praise him as he left the field.
United are ready to splash the cash this summer but will not allow themselves to be dragged into an auction if they sense Maguire now has a preference for the Premier League champions.
