Seagulls eye swoop for Chelsea starlet
New Brighton boss Graham Potter’s first signing could be Chelsea youngster Reece James on a season-long loan deal.
Reports claim the England Under-20 right-back, who has been linked to the Seagulls for some time, is wanted in as a direct replacement for recently-retired Bruno.
But Brighton must wait to hear what Chelsea’s plans are for James because their Fifa transfer ban will mean they cannot dip into the market for any replacements in the next two windows.
The 19-year-old made 44 Championship starts for Wigan while on loan there last season and looks ready for the step up to Premier League level.
Brighton chief scout Paul Winstanley is from Wigan and has watched him many times over the past few months while James will be familiar to Potter, having played in both games against his Swansea City side this past campaign.
