Doncaster defender Andy Butler rejoins Scunthorpe
Scunthorpe have re-signed Doncaster defender Andy Butler on a one-year contract.
The 35-year-old returns to his first club after 11 years to become Paul Hurst’s first signing since taking over as manager.
Butler came through the academy at Glanford Park and made 153 appearances in all competitions before moving to Huddersfield in 2008.
Successful spells at Walsall and Doncaster followed – where he scored a late header for the latter in their Sky Bet League One semi-final play-off defeat to Charlton last week – and he is targeting a return to the third tier following United’s relegation.
Butler told the club’s website: ‘It’s a new chapter in my career.
It’s good to be back.
It’s been 11 years since I was last here, and I’m looking forward to getting started.
‘In terms of infrastructure, it’s changed.
The ground’s very familiar though and I had some good times here.
Hopefully we can replicate them.
They want to get the club back on the up again and start strongly.
‘I had some good years here when I was younger and the aim is to bring the good times back to Scunthorpe.
That’s what we’re aiming to do this year.’
