Long-standing Palace target to opt for Everton
Crystal Palace look set to miss out on Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck this summer amid reports he wants to join Everton.
The Eagles have a long-standing link to the England international and were understood to be weighing up a January transfer swoop before Welbeck suffered a serious ankle injury.
The 28-year-old has been on the sidelines since the start of November due to the issue and will be allowed to leave the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer this summer after deciding to run down his contract.
Palace are understood to be amongst a collection of Premier League clubs keen to speak to the former Manchester United man but are set to be disappointed with the latest reports suggesting Everton are favourites for his signature.
Welbeck is keen to move to a club with Champions League ambitions and believes the Toffees are the most likely to break into the top four in the short term, while the presence of former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott at Goodison Park has helped the Merseysiders’ cause.
Improving his attacking options is key for Roy Hodgson this summer with several of this season’s cast poised to move.
Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke have both been linked an exit, while Michy Batshuayi’s loan move from Chelsea looks unlikely to be made permanent.
