Kovac – Neuer was sensational
Niko Kovac praised Manuel Neuer’s impact after seeing Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 3-0 in the DFB-Pokal final.
The goalkeeper was a doubt coming into the game due to a calf problem picked up in April but was passed fit and made a string of excellent early saves to keep Die Bullen at bay.
Eventually Bayern found their rhythm and a Robert Lewandowski brace either side of a Kingsley Coman strike saw the Bundesliga champions add the cup to their haul.
Kovac said he was pleased by how his players found ways to counter a bright Leipzig side but admitted they would have been in big trouble without their skipper’s numerous interventions.
‘Obviously I’m delighted,’ he said.
‘Leipzig made life very difficult for us and didn’t allow us many chances.
‘As the match wore on we found better solutions.
I’d particularly like to congratulate Manuel Neuer.
His performance was sensational.’
