United winning race to snap up Ajax ace ahead of rivals
Manchester United are reported to be closing in on a swoop for Ajax central defender Matthijs de Ligt.
United have put a new central defender at the top of their wanted list and they appear ready to push the boat out to ensure they fight off the competition to land the in-demand youngster.
Barcelona and Manchester City are known to be in the hunt, but reports claim that United will offer the 19-year-old £350,000 a week to ensure he heads to Old Trafford.
It was initially thought that United would miss out on a deal as they will be unable to offer Champions League football next season, but De Ligt can see the bigger picture and is keen to make the switch.
De Ligt has plenty of time on his side and reports claim he likes the idea of being the main man in the heart of the United defence for years to come.
A move for the Dutch starlet would see United drop all interest in Leicester City ace Harry Maguire, who is very much in the same mould as De Ligt.
