Williams linked with return
Wales defender Ashley Williams has been linked with a return to former club Swansea City after being released by Everton.
Williams signed a three-year deal when he joined Everton in 2016 from the Swans, where he had spent the previous eight years.
The experienced defender joined Stoke City on a season-long loan the following August but the early signs suggest the centre-back will not return to the bet365 Stadium.
Williams, who made 37 appearances for the Potters, has been included in Wales’ squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers in Croatia on Saturday and in Hungary on Tuesday.
Everton confirmed Williams’ departure when releasing their retained list and now Swansea could make a move to snap up the free agent and bring him back to the Liberty Stadium.
