City weigh up midfield targets
Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele and Real Madrid’s Marcos Llorente have emerged as possible Man City transfer targets if they fail to land Rodri.
City are looking to sign a new holding midfielder this summer as Fernandinho turned 34 last month and the long-term future of Ilkay Gundogan is also in doubt.
They are targeting Atletico Madrid man Rodri and it’s thought City could trigger the 22-year-old’s £62million release clause to bring him to the Etihad.
The Spain international is Pep Guarduiola’s first choice in the transfer market but, if a deal cannot be reached, City have other options.
Lyon’s Ndombele, who caught the eye in the Champions League group stage last season against City, and Real’s Llorente may be pursued instead of Rodri later in the summer.
Rodri is also on the radar of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, so City face plenty of competition for his services, but Guardiola, along with football director Txiki Begiristain and chief executive Ferran Soriano, remain confident – as things stand – that they will be able to get their man.
