Former Cardiff midfielder Stuart O’Keefe joins Gillingham
Gillingham have signed former Cardiff midfielder Stuart O’Keefe on a two-year deal.
The 28-year-old, who was released by Cardiff earlier this month, is the League One club’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Connor Ogilvie, Jack Bonham and Lee Hodson.
The former Southend and Crystal Palace man signed for Cardiff in January 2015 and scored two goals in 45 appearances and also spent time on loan at MK Dons, Portsmouth and Plymouth.
O’Keefe told Gillingham’s official website: ‘For me, Gillingham presents a great opportunity to try and achieve something.
Steve Evans is very competitive and has been very successful with Crawley, Rotherham and then at Peterborough.
‘I live locally and it presents a chance for me to settle down and concentrate on my football.
I’m now looking forward to meeting my team-mates and enjoying a good pre-season.
‘ Manager Steve Evans added: ‘I have been speaking to Stuart for 10 days.
‘In fact, I spoke to him on my first day in the job and I was delighted, whilst on holiday, to receive a call from the chairman to say terms had been agreed and it was then up to me to convince him on football matters.
‘He’s an energetic, competitive midfielder who has played in both the Premier League and Championship and we are delighted to have him on board.’
