City to drop interest in midfielder
Manchester City are poised to look elsewhere if Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez continues to drag his heels over a move to the Etihad.
Reports in Spain have stated Atletico are now willing to match the £150,000 per week package currently on offer from the Premier League champions.
The Citizens have made it clear they are prepared to meet the £61m buyout figure in the 22-year-old’s contract, with Barcelona also declared admirers.
Pep Guardiola, however, who views Rodri as the long-term successor to Brazil midfield veteran Fernandinho, is believed to be growing impatient with the mixed messages coming from his camp.
The Spain international has asked for more time before reaching a decision, increasing fears the player might be having second thoughts about leaving.
The Citizens may also be wary of any ploy by Rodri’s agents to extract an even higher salary from them, with Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele still an option for City.
City know Rodri is excited by playing under Guardiola but are making it clear they won’t wait much longer before moving on to other deals.
