Villa begin season with Spurs test
Aston Villa will begin life back in the Premier League with a tricky-looking away clash against Champions League finalists Tottenham.
Dean Smith’s side ended their three-year absence from the top flight by beating Derby in last month’s play-off final and have been handed a baptism of fire for their first match back amongst the elite, as they will make a first ever trip to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 10.
Villa have lost six of their last seven away clashes with Spurs – most recently a 2-0 defeat in the FA Cup back in 2017 – but they will be hoping the feel-good factor of promotion will stand them in good stead this time around.
The Villans’ first home match back in the top flight will come the following week when they welcome Bournemouth to Villa Park, while they will round off August with a home clash against Everton and a trip to Crystal Palace.
The clashes with Midlands rivals Wolves will also be one for the Villa fans to take note of, with their trip to Molineux scheduled for November 9, while the reverse fixture at Villa Park will take place on April 4.
Villa’s final match of the season will have a similar feel to their opener when they make their first trip to a new ground to take on West Ham at the London Stadium on May 17 – that is unless the two sides are drawn to face each other at the venue in one of the domestic cup competitions.
