Villa set to launch Phillips bid
Aston Villa are reportedly set to launch a bid to sign highly-rated Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The Villans are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer following their promotion from the Championship and they have already completed the permanent signings of Anwar El Ghazi and Jota.
Boss Dean Smith is now prioritising a new defensive midfielder after he allowed Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak to leave on free transfers at the end of last term and it appears Phillips fits the bill.
The 23-year-old has been a regular in the Leeds first-team over the last three seasons, making over 100 appearances, but he could now be tempted to leave his hometown club after their own failure to earn promotion to the top-flight.
Villa are believed to be willing to submit an initial bid of £14million for the defensive midfielder, who they watched on numerous occasions last season, although that is likely to fall short of Leeds’ valuation, as they are looking at a figure closer to the £20million mark.
