Former Stuttgart defender Danny Collinge has sealed a free transfer move to Colchester after five years in Germany, the League Two club have announced.

The 21-year-old has signed a two-year deal and will officially join the club on July 1 subject to international clearance and completion of the relevant paperwork following a successful trial at the JobServe Community Stadium at end of last season.

Collinge left former club MK Dons for Germany as a 16-year-old in 2014 after being given the opportunity to continue his formal education by combining football with his studies towards an International Baccalaureate.

A statement on the club’s official website said: ‘Colchester United are delighted to welcome former VfB Stuttgart defender Danny Collinge to the club on a free transfer.

‘Twenty-one-year-old Danny arrives at the JobServe Community Stadium on a two year contract, as he returns to England after a five year stay in Germany.

‘Danny’s move will be confirmed on July 1, subject to international clearance and the relevant paperwork being approved.’
