Identity of United defender offered for Diop revealed
West Ham were offered Manchester United defender Phil Jones, plus cash, as the Reds attempted to land Hammers defender Issa Diop, reports claim.
United’s interest in Diop emerged over the weekend, with reports claiming that United offered £45million plus a player, in the hope that West Ham would decide to cash in.
Such talk has since been backed up by respected journalists in France so it seems as though the interest is genuine.
It has since been claimed that the player offered by the Reds was Jones, who only penned a new contract with the club in January, but the Hammers turned it down.
It is claimed that is no slight on Jones, but more to do with the fact that West Ham have no intention of cashing in on Diop, who they see as pivotal to their plans moving forward.
United are keen to sign at least one new central defender this summer and it remains to be seen if they will come back in with a new improved offer for Diop.
