Rudiger fitness worries Chelsea
Chelsea are concerned defender Antonio Rudiger will not be fit enough to play in the opening Premier League games of the season.
The German central defender has suffered with knee injuries throughout his career and sustained another one against Liverpool in the second half of last season.
He was rushed back for their crucial match against Manchester United in the race to secure top four football but broke down in the 1-1 draw just two weeks later.
Now, sources close to the club have shown big concerns he will not be fit enough for the start of the season, which are escalated by the fact that Chelsea cannot sign anyone this summer due to their FIFA imposed transfer ban.
David Luiz signed a new contract in the summer so Andreas Christiansen will probably play in Rudiger’s place, with Kurt Zouma also returning to the fold after his loan spell with Everton.
Chelsea have endured a chaotic pre-season so far, with manager Maurizio Sarri leaving to join Juventus and no replacement announced.
They also have other injuries to contend with, as Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are already ruled out for the start of the season.
