Vokes admits mixed Clarets feelings
Sam Vokes says he misses Burnley and was delighted the Clarets stayed up last season following his exit to Stoke City.
Vokes had been with Burnley for six-and-a-half years but opted for a move to the Potters in January in a bid to try and secure more regular first-team action.
However, he kept his eye on Sean Dyche’s side’s results in the second half of last season and was pleased to see they eventually eased themselves clear of the relegation zone after a struggle in the early months of the campaign.
He told the Burnley website: ‘The boys stayed up well in the end.
I was always going to be a fight, whether we were in Europe or not.
‘It’s great to see the boys ended up staying up and for a club like Burnley to have another season in the Premier League is a great achievement.
‘ The Wales international admitted he was taken by surprise how quickly his move to the bet365 Stadium came about in the new year and he hopes to return to see some of his old friends at Turf Moor at some point soon.
He added: ‘I suppose the hardest part was that I had such good friends and relationships with work and off the pitch with the lads and staff at the club.
‘And I haven’t really been back to see anyone.
I’ve seen a few of the lads away from the club but not been back to the training ground yet or to a game.
‘I didn’t really have time to say goodbye to a lot of people, so it would be great to pop back at some point.’
