Lampard on verge of Chelsea appointment
It’s now just a matter of time before Chelsea reach an agreement with Derby and Frank Lampard to appoint the former midfielder as boss.
It appears it is now a matter of when and not if the Blues will confirm Lampard’s appointment at Stamford Bridge as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement following his decision to take over at Juventus.
Lampard led Derby to the play-off final last month, where his side narrowly lost to Aston Villa, but is keen to return to Chelsea as boss, five years after he left the club following a successful playing career.
Chelsea are happy to pay the Rams the £4million compensation fee the Championship club require to activate his release and it is thought an agreement between all parties could be in place as early as next week.
Chelsea officials have held informal talks with Lampard and his representatives, and as soon as the former England star returns from holiday his Stamford Bridge homecoming will be sorted out.
