Zapata agent claims he was ‘convinced’ of Genoa’s project
The agent of Cristian Zapata has revealed that Genoa’s ‘project’ was the key to him choosing them over other clubs this summer.
The 32-year-old Colombia international central defender was available on a free transfer after seven seasons with AC Milan, where he made 148 appearances in all competitions.
Sampdoria, Bologna and Sassuolo were all linked with a move to sign Lapata, but the former Villarreal man opted to stay in Serie A with Genoa.
On the decision of Zapata to move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on a two-year deal after his country’s involvement in the Copa America in Brazil, his agent Ivan Cordoba told the Secolo XIX newspaper: ‘Cristian has given up the chance to play for so many other teams and a lot of money because he is convinced by the project that Genoa have.’
