Attitude and spirit delights Cavani
Edinson Cavani admits he was very happy with the professionalism his team showed in their run to topping Group C in the Copa America.
Uruguay entered their match against Chile in second spot behind their opponents but overcame the reigning champions thanks to a 1-0 win.
It was Cavani who grabbed the game’s only goal eight minutes from time which means Oscar Tabarez’s side are the only team to have won all three of their group games.
The 32-year-old Cavani says he was very happy with how his team approached the game.
‘In some moments we played well, in other moments less well, but always with the (right) attitude and mentality we were able to snatch the game,’ he said.
‘We wanted to win the group without knowing what would come next, to show a good image in the group and continue with this attitude.
‘ Uruguay take on Peru in the quarter-finals on Saturday where, if they are victorious, they will then play either Chile or Colombia who play on Friday, and Cavani is hopeful the extra day’s rest will make a difference.
‘One extra day of rest is useful, it’s important because we’re on the limit,’ he explained.
‘It was a keenly contested match with few spaces.
We managed a little bit better than our opponents.’
