Clarets stopper Tarkowski expecting McNeil interest
James Tarkowski has said that he would not be surprised if any big clubs make a summer move for Burnley starlet Dwight McNeil.
The 19-year-old former Manchester United youth product has become a key player in Clarets’ boss Sean Dyche’s plans in the past season with three goals in 21 Premier League appearances.
McNeil’s form resulted in him being called up to England’s Under-20s and handed a new four-and-a-half year deal at Turf Moor earlier in the year.
Manchester City, Arsenal and Everton are some the teams which have been credited with an interest in signing the youngster and Tarkowski is not surprised.
The 26-year-old England international central defender told the Burnley Express: ‘It’s only natural.
‘Any player doing well in the game will have people sniffing around them, especially with the age he is.
He’s still so young and he’s got so much time to improve.
‘That statistic [most productive teenager in the PL] wouldn’t surprise me because of his quality and the demand from him.
‘He wants the ball, he wants to beat people, he’s gone to some big places and gone up against some big players and shown how good he is.’
